“Then explain it. Now.”
Josh stumbled for words. “It’s a fake. Deepfake maybe. Or— Brittany’s mad I moved on. I haven’t spoken to her in months.”
Hailee stepped back, heart pounding. “Why would anyone believe that if you didn’t leave a crack open? People don’t make this stuff up out of nowhere, Josh.”
Anger rose in his voice now. “You’re really going to believe her over me? On our honeymoon?”
“You’re not the one who’s had to live in the shadows of your ex since the beginning of this relationship,” Hailee said, voice cracking. “It’s not about belief — it’s about trust. And I’m struggling to find it.”

Silence filled the villa. Josh sat on the balcony, reading every message he’d ever sent. He called his agent, his lawyer, even Brittany’s brother. Finally, he got the truth.
A third-party tabloid hacker had fabricated the screenshot, splicing pieces of old DMs Josh had sent before he ever met Hailee. Brittany, to her credit, confirmed this publicly.
Josh showed Hailee the proof.
“I told you,” he said softly.
Hailee stared at the cleared timeline and the press statement. Her shoulders slumped. “I wanted to believe you… but when it comes to your past, it always finds a way into our present.”
Josh nodded. “Maybe we started this too fast. But I know one thing — I’m not letting one lie ruin what’s real between us.”
