Mia DeCamilla, an eight-year-old San Francisco 49ers fan and cancer survivor, was attending her first NFL game on Sunday night at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.

What should have been a joyous occasion turned upsetting when an allegedly intoxicated Buffalo Bills fan shoved her down the stairs during the third quarter.

Although Mia was unharmed, her family decided to leave the game following the altercation. While police were informed, the family chose not to file a formal report.

A native of Rochester, Mia has overcome liver cancer twice, achieving remission most recently in May 2023. Her journey has made her a local inspiration, featured prominently in WIVB’s “Shine Gold” series, which raises funds for children battling cancer.

NFL game was supposed to be a moment of celebration

Sunday was meant to be a celebration of her resilience. Dressed in 49ers red and holding a sign that read, “I beat cancer! My first NFL game!” Mia was excited to watch her team in action.

However, the joy of the evening was interrupted in section 312 when a disruptive Bills fan pushed past her family.

“He bumped me and my son and then pushed her. She almost slid off the stairs… He was about 6 feet tall, and she’s less than 100 pounds,” her father recalled.

Despite the unsettling incident, Mia refused to let it overshadow the entire evening.

“My favorite part was getting to see Brock Purdy,” she said.

“He’s my favorite player, and I have his jersey, too.”

As news of the incident spread, Buffalo fans, known for their generosity through the Bills Mafia community, came together to show their support for Mia and her family.
