Reason for optimism for the Bills
The Buffalo Bills are preparing for the Wild Card round, awaiting the outcome of Week 18 to determine their first playoff opponent.
Three teams – the Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, and Miami Dolphins – are still in contention for the No. 7 seed in the AFC. Each of these teams has a path to the postseason depending on Week 18 results, and while all pose challenges, there is reason for optimism for the Bills.

Who can pose the biggest threat?
One clear advantage the Bills have heading into the playoffs is the performance of these three potential opponents against teams with winning records.
The Bills, however, have shown their strength against top-tier opponents, going 5-3 against teams with a .500 or better record this season. Their three losses came against playoff-bound teams: the Baltimore Ravens, the Houston Texans, and a surprising loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

In comparison, the Broncos and Dolphins have struggled when up against higher-level competition, which bodes well for the Bills. Buffalo was dominant in both of their matchups with the Dolphins this season, leaving little doubt about their ability to overcome Miami. The Broncos, while still fighting for a playoff berth, are in the midst of a rebuilding phase and have shown some inconsistencies.
The team that could potentially pose the biggest challenge for Buffalo in the Wild Card round is the Cincinnati Bengals. With star quarterback Joe Burrow leading the charge, the Bengals’ offense has been on fire. Burrow has been playing at an MVP level, and paired with wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, Cincinnati’s offense has averaged over 30 points per game in their last three contests.
While Buffalo’s defense is strong and capable of shutting down explosive offenses, the Bengals’ dynamic playmaking ability and high-scoring potential should not be underestimated. Cincinnati’s recent surge and Burrow’s outstanding performance make them the most da
ngerous Wild Card threat.
