The ex-LIV Golfer Laurie Canter has a chance of securing a PGA Tour card for 2025 if he manages to finish in the top 10 of the Race to Dubai rankings. He is currently down to 18 in the DP World Tour’s 10-card initiative, and a strong finish in the final two events can make him a strong contender to receive a PGA Tour card.
Canter was part of LIV Golf in 2022 and has competed in 19 events in the Saudi-backed series. However, he has decided not to compete in the LIV Promotion Event as the tournament will clash with the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
He added he was ready to “move on and get back to playing” the DP World Tour events after losing the appeal case which he was party to last year.
Canter said (via bunkered),
“I was part of the appeal case [last year], and we lost the appeal. Since then, in the position I was in, I was happy to accept that and say I’m going to be a member. We’ve been through a process with it, and the tribunal set a precedent for what happened. I’ve just wanted to move on and get back to playing,”

The 35-year-old golfer also said that while he enjoyed playing the LIV events, he had a sense of appreciation for the “national opens” and “historic events.”

“I did really enjoy playing LIV. I understand it’s fractious, but my feeling is there is room for something like LIV. I like national opens and historic events, they need to be preserved and made bigger. But I do think there’s room for something a bit different.”
Is Lauire Canter eligible to compete on the PGA Tour?
The PGA Tour has banned the entry of golfers who jumped ship to LIV Golf. However, since Laurie Canter isn’t a member of the tour, he has a way out. The English golfer had to serve a one-year suspension since his last LIV event, after which he is eligible to compete on the tour.

However, the 35-year-old golfer said the ban was “absurd” as he was not a PGA Tour member when he joined LIV Golf.
“And I do think it’s absurd. I’ve never been a member of that tour. How can you ban someone who has never played on your tour? I would understand it if I was a member of their tour, but in my context, I don’t understand it. I am a golfer, so I’m pro opportunity, but it’s a bizarre way of sanctioning someone.”
So, even if he receives a PGA Tour card, Canter has to miss the opening few events as he last competed on LIV Golf as a reserve at Las Vegas in February 2024
