The NFL Competition Committee votes every year in the offseason on rules to make the game better. They have some rule changes proposed for next season.
The game of football has changed a lot over the last couple of years. Every year the rules are examined and then the committee votes on the ones they believe will make the game better. Whether that means they’re making it safer for the players or a better experience for the fans, they’re trying to just make it better all around. Those rules are sent as proposals and then voted on at the owner’s meetings. This year, those meetings happen next week.
This year some of the biggest changes include rules dealing with the kickoff (again) and replay assist.
Kickoff rule changes
Last year the NFL implemented a brand new kickoff where players were stationary until the kick returner caught the ball. They were also much further up the field to avoid such big collisions with players who were running full speed in opposite directions.
This year, they’ve agreed that it will make more sense to move the kickoff back to the 35-yard line to encourage more returns. It does get kind of boring when kicks sail into (or through) the end zone every time for a touchback.
Replay assist changes
Last year you may have noticed several plays that were quickly changed by “replay assist.” While there are referees on the field, there are also referees who are watching off the field and get access to immediate replay. They were allowed to call down to the refs on the field and change calls immediately.
This year, they’re proposing that the replay assist refs can change a call when a flag is thrown. However, they cannot change a play if a penalty is missed. So for example, if a ball is spotted incorrectly, the replay assist ref can change it. If a flag is thrown for roughing the passer or unnecessary roughness and there wasn’t any, that flag can be reversed from the booth. The goal is to cover “objective aspects of a play and/or to address game administration issues when clear and obvious video evidence is present.”
Here’s the full language on the competition committee’s instant replay proposal, which only covers plays where a flag is thrown on the field, not for plays where a penalty is missed.
All proposals are up for discussion and potential votes at next week’s NFL Annual Meeting. L https://t.co/hZaTizyooW pic.twitter.com/CcnQTwdqwP

I know…it’s a shameless plug but it really is going to be awesome. Join us for every home game this season at Prohibition 2020 at the corner of Abbott and Southwestern right next to the stadium!

It doesn’t have to be an expensive jersey, but you should wear team colors. Let the other team know that they are in our house.

Bills Mafia = good people
This is one that took me a while to get as a Bills fan. But after visiting other cities’ stadiums and seeing what it was like to be accepted there was a lot more fun for everyone. This should be the best place to watch a game, no matter who your team is.

Be Quiet When The Offense Is ON The Field Be Loud for the Defense
You want the offense to be able to communicate efficiently. You want to be loud, cheer when the defense is on the field. Its amazing how many fans make noise when we are offense. Don’t do that.

It doesn’t always happen, but when it does, you should be a part of it.

Don’t Peak Too Soon
This is true in tailgating and in the stadium. Don’t get drunk before you even get into the game. Not only is it a waste of money for you, but it’s super annoying to everyone else in the stadium.
And when it comes to yelling, save a little for the 4th quarter when the Bills might need it.

Dress Appropriately For The Weather
Don’t be that person who has to leave the game early because you didn’t wear enough, or you wore too much. Remember sunglasses, dress in layers, cap, etc.

Need A Bathroom Break? Wait until after the play
People who drink a lot, have to use the bathroom a lot. Remember this when you’re in the middle of the row and you’re asking people to stand up so you can get by them. You never walk in front of someone when there’s a play in progress or just getting started. Wait until it’s over, then politely ask if you can get by.

Let Other People Cheer For Their Team
I know, it’s hard to fathom, but not everyone who pays for a ticket to a Bills game is a Bills fan. Avoid that fight. You get as loud as you want for your team and let them cheer for theirs.
Sing The Shout Song Loud

This song is our fight song. It’s ours. Be proud and sing it loud!

No better way to make a better neighbor to the people around you than to celebrate with them. The best way to do it? High Fives.

Keep Your Sign Down During Plays
If you brought a sign to get on TV or to get your favorite player’s attention, make sure you put it down while play is in action. The people behind you paid to see the field too.
