Welcome back to our weekend chat, Buffalo Bills fans.
Sean McDermott made news last weekend by botching the end of the game scenario against the Los Angeles Rams. He admitted he would do it differently in the future and we aren’t here to debate that.
Instead, let’s take a big picture look at McDermott and his place in Bills history. Is McDermott the best coach the Bills have ever had right now? Let’s take a closer look:
McDermott (.654) has the highest winning percentage of any coach in team history. That’s better than Marv Levy (.615), Wade Phillips (.604), and Lou Saban (.601).
Marv Levy is the all-time leader in coaching wins with 112, McDermott is in second with 83, well ahead of Saban’s 68. At 30 wins behind Levy, McDermott could realistically match the Hall of Famer by the end of the 2026 season.
Levy leads Bills coaches with 11 playoff wins and McDermott is second at five, and he also has a much better winning percentage (.579) than McDermott (.454). Levy also went to five AFC Championship Games, winning four. McDermott has been to one AFCC Game, and falling behind 38-15 midway through the fourth quarter.
Saban is the only one with a championship, hosting the AFL Championship trophy in 1964 and 1965.
So how would you rank the “Big Three” Bills coaches; Saban, Levy, and McDermott?
