Amon-Ra St. Brown went viral last Sunday afternoon, even before he stepped onto the grass at Lambeau Field for the much-anticipated Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers divisional matchup.
The Lions’ Pro Bowl receiver wore a black hoodie to the stadium, with the inscription “GREENBAY SUCKS” across the front. The takeaway from many: Why is Green Bay spelled as one word?
St. Brown had an answer for the confusion this week on the “St. Brown Podcast,” show he co-hosts with his brother, Equanimeous. He said he and the manufacturer had it planned for weeks, and the sweatshirt was sent to the Lions’ team hotel in Appleton, Wisconsin, since St. Brown could not get it in time before the team left Detroit.
“I open it up,” St. Brown said. “I see it says ‘GREENBAY SUCKS.’ I’m gonna be honest bro — this is like 100% honesty I didn’t even notice. I wasn’t worried about the spelling of Green Bay. I just made sure the hoodie was right, that it fit and everything. I see the comment, ‘He can’t even spell Green Bay right,’ I said ‘damn. Green Bay is (expletive) spelled wrong.’ Don’t get me wrong, that’s not my fault. That’s the manufacturer’s fault. They spelled Green Bay wrong.
“But then I’m thinking about it, I’m like, ‘That’s perfect. It works out perfect.’ It doesn’t matter how it’s spelled to me. It’s ‘GREENBAY SUCKS’ and I actually like that it’s spelled wrong ’cause it makes even better. Green Bay as one (word), as two, like who really cares, it’s still Green Bay sucks.”

Equanimeous St. Brown a receiver originally drafted by Green Bay in 2018 who plays for the New Orleans Saints, said some Packers fans had crazy comments on the podcast’s post showing Amon-Ra in the hoodie on gameday, including that they hoped he tore his ACL.
“That’s crazy,” Amon-Ra St. Brown said.
But he and the Lions got the last laugh in a 24-14 throttling of the Packers, with St. Brown catching a mesmerizing fourth-and-goal touchdown on a route not even Tom Brady had seen before. St. Brown has caught 30 straight passes thrown his way.
“After that pick-6 (by Kerby Joseph), I was feeling really good,” St. Brown said. “I’m like, ‘This is looking really (expletive) good. This (expletive) is gonna age even better.’ And sure enough we won.
“Like I said, I don’t have no beef with the (Packers) players, it’s truly just like the fanbase. I wouldn’t even say they’re annoying. They think this shit (the division) is theirs, when really, it’s anyone’s right now? But, it’s not theirs. They have won it, I get it, they have been dominant for a long time. But it’s a little different now. And I like trolling. Trolling is fun.”

Equanimeous then ripped on the city of Detroit again.
“Everyone but the owner, but if all the players and the coaches could choose to have the Detroit Lions in a different city, like L.A., you guys would choose that in a heartbeat. No one wants to be in Detroit. It just happens you need a team in Michigan, like I’m sorry,” Equanimeous said, laughing.
