$43M-worth LIV golfer admits being ‘wrong’ about Bryson DeChambeau
Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau weren’t on the best terms until recently. Now, the two LIV golfers seem to have made peace with each other. Notably, Koepka on Tuesday (December 10) came out to admit that he was “wrong” in judging DeChambeau. The ace golfer made the comment ahead of The Showdown.
For the unversed, Koepka and DeChambeau are currently promoting their LIV vs PGA Tour ‘Showdown’ with Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy next Tuesday at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. Speaking to the media ahead of the event, the former foes addressed their past differences, including the infamous SpikesGate at Kiawah Island in 2021.
While DeChambeau admitted that the duo had a ‘pretty rocky relationship,’ Koepka jumped in to state that the former was “severely misunderstood” and he will be the ‘first person to admit’ he was “wrong” with his original thoughts.
Speaking about his multi-year rift with Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka said, as quoted by Golf Monthly:
“Obviously we’ve come a long way. Going to LIV, honestly, I think that was a big moment, even just for us, right? We were forced—well, I don’t want to say forced, but we were communicating a lot more, our conversation became a lot more open. From there, I’m the first person to admit I can be a bit stubborn…
“Look, we all get older, we all mature a little bit, and then you realize, hey, Bryson’s a good dude. I think he’s severely misunderstood and I think the world is actually starting to really see who Bryson DeChambeau is, which is cool. I’m the first person to admit it, I was wrong with what my original thoughts were.”
Koepka went on to say that the LIV duo have started more businesses together. Bryson DeChambeau quickly chimed in to credit the calls they got on together ahead of joining LIV rebuild their relationship. Koepka even revealed that he might feature on his rival’s ‘Break 50′ YouTube series if they win The Showdown.
Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau’s rift over the years
It is pertinent to note that Koepka’s comments come over around five years of the infamous Brooks-Bryson rift’s start. For the unversed, the duo’s work relationship reportedly fell through in January 2019 when Koepka called out DeChambeau for slow-play at the 2019 Dubai Desert Classic. The cold war between the two continued for years with several incidents, including Bryson attacking Brooks’ abs on Twitch in January 2020.
The fight was popular among fans by then. In October 2020, Koepka joined his wife Jena Sims in an Instagram Q&A. The couple went about it for a while without having a word about DeChambeau. However, towards the end of the live stream, a viewer said he was “sad no one asked about Bryson.” Interestingly, Brooks addressed the comment and said that a lot of queries were on his rival and he purposely “chose not to talk about it.”
In May 2021, Bryson DeChambeau walked an ordinary cart path wearing his metal spikes at the PGA Championship. Koepka, unsettled by the move, did an eyeroll which elevated his beef with the reigning US Open champion. Later in June, a group of Brooks fans shouted “Brooksy” while Bryson was teeing up at the Memorial Tournament. The unruly fans’ action was rewarded by Koepka who offered them free beer.
The duo’s relationship seemingly got better once they joined LIV Golf and started leading their own franchises in 2022. The next year, Koepka and DeChambeau surprised fans by appearing on an Instagram post together. Interestingly, Bryson posed with Brooks on the golf course while the latter was donning a ‘Let’s go Brooksy’ shirt.
Now, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka come together to compete against PGA Tour rivals Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy at The Showdown. The event can be watched real time on TNT ne
