Bills Face Mounting Pressure After $330 Million Investment in QB Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills came up just short once again last season. Josh Allen and company made it all the way to the AFC championship game before being eliminated by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Entering the offseason, it was clear that the Bills had more work to do. They also needed to figure out a long-term contract with Allen.

After the superstar quarterback won the NFL MVP award in 2024, it was expected that he would get a new deal this offseason.

Allen has now received that contract. Buffalo ended up signing him to a six-year, $330 million extension.

Following the huge deal for Allen, the Bills now must build out the roster around him and finally get over the hump and into the Super Bowl.

ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes believes that Buffalo is under even more pressure following its extension with Allen than it was before.

During a segment on “First Take” on Thursday, Kimes spoke out with her take on the situation.

“If they don’t build a better team around him, I would argue that the team, the GM, [and] front office deserves a lot of criticism,” she said.

In 2024, Allen threw for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He completed 63.6% of his passes. Allen also racked up 531 rushing yards to go along with 12 touchdowns on the ground.

While he got a big deal from the Bills, Allen wanted to leave the team some flexibility. He settled for slightly less money than he could have gotten and spoke out with his reasoning for doing so.

“It’s weird to say this, but what is $5 million more going to do for my life that I can’t already do right now. It’s not that crazy to me,” Allen said. “I was like, if it has any impact on the cap, let’s figure out a way to not do that.”
