James Cook, born on September 25, 1999, in Miami, Florida, is an American football running back currently playing for the Buffalo Bills in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Georgia, where he was part of the team that won the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2021. Cook was selected by the Bills in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 63rd overall pick.

 

In his rookie season (2022), Cook played 16 games, recording 507 rushing yards with an average of 5.7 yards per carry and two touchdowns. He also contributed 180 receiving yards and one touchdown reception. The 2023 season marked a significant improvement, as Cook became the team’s primary running back. He played all 17 games, starting 13, and amassed 1,122 rushing yards with an average of 4.7 yards per carry and two touchdowns. Additionally, he recorded 445 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions. His outstanding performance earned him his first Pro Bowl selection in 2023.

 

The 2024 season saw Cook continue his upward trajectory. He played a pivotal role in the Bills’ offense, particularly in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins, where he scored three total touchdowns, contributing significantly to a 31–10 victory. Throughout the season, Cook’s consistent performance helped the Bills secure a 13–4 regular-season record, their best in a full 17-game schedule. Quarterback Josh Allen was awarded the AP NFL Most Valuable Player Award for his play that year, with Cook’s contributions being instrumental to the team’s success.

In the playoffs, Cook’s impact was evident in the Divisional Round against the Baltimore Ravens. The Bills secured a narrow 27–25 victory in a hard-fought game, with Cook’s effective rushing complementing Allen’s leadership on offense. However, the Bills’ postseason run ended in the AFC Championship Game, where they were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs 32–29 in a thrilling match.
