Jon Rahm opens up on testing LIV Golf journey after walking away with £14 million bonus

Jon Rahm has opened up on his testing journey on the LIV Golf circuit in 2024, having ended the year as the league’s individual champion, banking a hefty bonus in the process.

Rahm secured his second LIV title last weekend, taking the crown in Chicago and finishing the regular season at the summit of the individual standings. The victory was a dramatic one right down to the wire, having narrowly edged out Joaquin Niemann for the top spot.

Niemann kept the competition fierce until the final round of the regular season, finishing in the Chicago tournament after 54 holes, shooting an eight-under-par across three rounds, which left him trailing three shots behind the champion, Rahm.

The Spaniard’s high-profile switch to the LIV series last winter was well-documented, having signed a record-breaking deal worth a reported £450 million. Rahm’s departure from the PGA Tour raised eyebrows among LIV critics, and he conceded that the transition had its difficulties.

“I wouldn’t say bumpy road but definitely windy,” Rahm said, reflecting on his first year with the controversial Saudi-backed tour. His successful run was handsomely rewarded with a cool £14 million bonus for his year-long dominance.

The Legion XIII captain encountered a slight hiccup with his new LIV champion ring, confessing: “It doesn’t fit right now. It’s too big for my pinky and too small for the other fingers. It’s all good. I do have sausage fingers,” he conceded.

Rahm however was saved by famed jeweller Ben Baller, who promised to resize the ring, revealing an attempt at a tech-savvy feature that didn’t quite pan out: “We were trying to do the QR Code thing that Ben told me about, but there’s a little bit too much bling bothering the camera,” he added.
